Corpse Flower Blooms in Beijing (TIMELAPSE - Stunning!)

This is the world's first artificially cultivated group of Corpse Flowers, and the last time they bloomed was 9 years ago. But this time, we were there to film the process and get a microscopic view of the pollination process as flies seek out the rotting corpse smell.

This flower is native endemic to the island of Sumatra-Indonesia, it's great to see our flower grow and blooms in the Chinese Botanical Gardens.
We Indonesia also have another corpse flower which is different from the Titan Arum but has the same smell, the flower is called Rafflesia Arnoldi it's also one of the largest wild corpse flowers in the world.

So fascinating! With characteristics similar to the Rafflesia flower, I just looked both up and am surprised to learn that both plants come from Indonesia. I wonder if southeast Asian tropical forests have the same appeal to East Asia as the Amazon does for North America~

Corpse flower sounds scary. But the Chinese translation 尸香魔芋 (mixed with 香and魔）doesn't send out the same feeling at all.

What a shame they couldn't have made a "sniff hole" in one of the window panes of the greenhouse. The smell is probably why many people know about this flower.

Well, at least I don't have to go there to know how the rotting corpse smell like. Once there were rotting rat corpse stuck inside the ditch in my house (we can't take the corpse away unless we take apart that part of our house).... the unbearable smell just go round and round inside some part of my house for more or less a month before it go away and yeah it attracts flies...
