I love how it seems like every time one of them makes a move the other is completely shocked to their core about it

Something a lot of people don’t realize is that most older players, especially geniuses like Kasparov, don’t really lose much playing strength with age. What they lose is stamina. So in a single game, a great master from the past could hold his own against today’s champions, but after 50–60, it’s much harder for them to maintain the pace of a long match or tournament.

Also, I wouldn’t read too much into Gary’s mannerisms. He has always been expressive, rolling his eyes, shaking his head and running his hands through his hair (back when he had hair). He probably felt that this was a pretty run-of-the-mill closed Benoni type position, the type he had played thousand times before. All he had to do was watch for tactics, exchange, and the draw was pretty certain.

1:55 so funny because this is a kind of "trick" even beginners can see 😂 garry didn't shake his head because hikaru saw the fork

It's incredible to see the slight mistakes even GMs can make, and it really remind you that nobody can be perfect even if they study for several years

Even a wounded Kasparov is still a very dangerous animal.

Chess is not just a game, it's a beautiful art of strategy and creativity that never fails to challenge and inspire us. Who else loves the thrill of the checkmate?

Legend has it they're both still shocked and flummoxed.

0:32 didn't know Doug DeMuro was so great at chess but now it makes sense.

appreciated that you speed up the slower more setting up moves. Most chess casters go through all theoretical possibilities here which I did not come for tbh. Good editing!

The reason a legend like Hikaru didn't see the opening with the queen is because Kasparov does what he does. He makes so many variety of moves using the entire board that even Hikaru was overwhelmed by having to scan the entire board for threats as opposed to being to focus on one area and missed a seemingly obvious opportunity.

I like this style of video, a whole game but short and straight to the point, no theoretical lines presented every single move

Why do chess players run off right after a game? Why not chill for a bit?
