Poppa Dawg - Deepest Shade of Blue

Hailing from the 'Left Coast' of Canada, Poppa Dawg & his band present the blues with a unique, tongue-in-cheek view. The band's sound moves from the slinky grooves of New Orleans to the down and dirty rawness of Chicago and all points in-between! Gritty and dynamic, they take the music from rushing peaks to hushing lows and then Poppa Dawg steps back from the mic to spread the news!

Besides leading his own band and making his own Blues, Poppa Dawg is ‘The Man’ when it comes to Interior, British Columbia. He keeps everything going, connecting clubs with artists, helping touring bands get gigs in Kelowna or Nelson, encourages venues to at least try live music. So, even outside of a recording context he is invaluable and irreplaceable.

Dawg has an easy-on-the-ears, natural blues voice and his guitar work betrays decades of influences from Johnny Watson to Elvin Bishop. Tasty and tasteful.
Sharing the stage as a side man with such artists as Sonny Rhodes, Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne and Harpdog Brown and as an opener for many years for John Mayall, Colin James, Jeff Healey, Powder Blues and so many others has been Poppa Dawg’s classroom and the education has not been lost on him as he presents the blues with a unique, tongue-in-cheek view and a deep and respectful appreciation of the music. Having garnered critical acclaim with 4 Cds both as himself and with his former band Dogskin Suit, the music runs all the way from Memphis to Motown.

Sitting at Lissabon Airport waiting on my flight back to Amsterdam. I listen to this song with my eyes closed and finally feeling a little peace, shutting out the world and all the people here, walking around with suitcases, pushing through the crowd and trying to find their way....
