Oh man. I use to eat those because they were so easy to find but now I will have to grow my own because I can’t find them locally anymore.

I'd recommend buying a machete for your melons etc, makes life so.much easier and something like a cold steel costs 50 or so AUD and I used mine 10hrs a week clearing to pay rent on a property in Perth and only sharpened it once or twice a month so cutting melons you'd probably lose it before it went blunt, seen some bad cuts using normal kitchen knife's to split melons etc and big cleavers etc are stupidly expensive. Now I think about it the cheap cold steel wouldn't suit as it's a high carbon steel but cold steel has a huge range and I've owned 5 different blades and I can't express how tough they are and I'm into bush craft, survivalism and throwing any blade and I'm yet to damage a cold steel, cut fencing wire a few times and it would get the tiniest little knick that you could barely see but could just feel it.

My Grandmother used to grow these in her front yard, whenever I'd visit she had me pick one, best sweetest watermelon I've ever tasted.
