Several venoms are based around proteins. So as long as there is no damage to the lining of your digestive track before it reaches your stomach, it is in theory completely safe to drink venom.

Venom is usually injected into the bloodstream via a fang, claw, or stinger from a plant or animal, like a snake or wasp.
Poison is usually inhaled, consumed, or absorbed through the skin, like from certain types of frogs, poison ivy, or even raw elements, like lead.
The part I think is funniest is that this mix-up usually goes the other way around - people will call something "poison" instead of calling it "venom". Probably the most common example of this mistake is "poisonous snake" rather than "venomous snake".

Venom is a type of poison so technically if you call a venom a poison and someone corrects you for it, they're wrong for correcting you.
Here though, it makes perfect sense to correct him.

If I recall correctly the difference is that if it bites you and you die it’s venomous and if you bite it and you die it’s poisonous.

I love this so much. It always bugs me when people arbitrarily mix up venom and poison. If it were actually venom there would have been a chance for the guy to survive, assuming there were no internal cuts or injuries for it to enter the blood stream
