Thanks to films such as 1977’s Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds became one of the biggest movie stars of his day. It was at the height of the actor’s fame that he met fellow star Loni Anderson on the set of 1983’s Stroker Ace. Loni was a television actress that had appeared on the series WKRP in Cincinnati for a total of five years before trying to find success in film. While she didn’t end up becoming a huge film star, she did end up becoming Burt’s third and final wife.

Burt and Loni adopted a son during their marriage, but that wasn’t enough to keep them from hating each other. They divorced in 1994, and Burt could be seen badmouthing his former wife all over the tabloids. Loni refused to retaliate at first before eventually spilling some dirt of her own, claiming that Burt had been abusive during their marriage. Because of this, Burt’s legacy was tainted, and it has remained so in the wake of his 2018 death. Join Facts Verse as Loni Anderson confesses secrets behind Burt Reynolds's divorce.

Burt Reynolds was a well known star in hollywood. I love his movies like The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Smokey and The Bandit & Striptease. His marriage with Loni was a really rocky relationship. Rest in peace, Burt.

The downfall of many successful men are their terrible choices in attractive women who are usually very materialistic.

My roommate in college was the daughter of the head of the UCLA Medical Center at that time. One of his clients was Dinah Shore who was frequently treated for facial injuries after being beaten by her boyfriend, Burt Reynolds. During an interview Reynold's first wife, Judy Carnes("Laugh In") reported being used as a punching bag by Reynolds, which gave more meaning to the phrase "sock it to me." Anderson may have been a spendthrift, but she took care of Reynolds for three years when he could not physically take care of himself. After he recovered, he dumped her. Reynolds was a very troubled person who has hopefully found peace.

It's easy to say those horrible things about someone when they aren't around to have their say.

The better a woman looks, the more expensive it costs to have them around. It's called high maintenance. I have experienced it myself.

The love of his life wasn't Sally Fields, it was Dinah Shore. She was older than him so that's why they never got together.
Sally said in her book that before he died, he called her and apologized for how they broke up and he said they should have gotten married and that she was his one true love but she didn't believe him.( That's what she meant by being happy that he didn't read the book and was dead before it came out.)

Team Loni, she kept quiet until it she couldn't take his ranting anymore. Trying to stay classy when the other party is airing dirty laundry is a tough thing to do. His first wife said he was physically abusive, Sally Fields said he was controlling and abusive. He might have a leg to stand on if it was just Loni, but Sally? No way! I still love Burt, issues with substances and all. RIP Burt!

I know more about Burt than I do Loni but by just observing them through the years by way of interviews and being a good judge of am way more likely to believe Burt over Loni any day of the week. There is just something about her I don't trust. RIP Burt

Poor Judy Carne's barely gets a mention here but she was the sock-it-to-me girl on Laugh In. I think she went through some hell with Reynolds too because they're marriage didn't last long either.

My father wrote the book “Stand On It” by Stroker Ace ( using that pen name because of true stories he experience with Real race car drivers), in which they made the film Stroker Ace. He made the Script for review with plans of Rockford star, James Garner to have him play the lead but he did not want to be apart of it because the book was sexually explicit. Various scripts were sent out by his public relations manager. Unfortunately she sent one out by herself without consulting him at the same time he sent one to Garner, she sent one to Paul Newman. Paul Newman found out and sued him for the rights to his own book! Paul Newman won the rights and sold the script to MGM. They in turned hired Burt Reynold and anything Burt Reynold did he made it a big joke thinking he was a comedian. Of course the movie was a bomb and my father never even got his name on the credits of the movie!!! Look up Stand On It by Stroker Ace!

Burt Reynolds paid Loni the final payment of the divorce in 2015, not a year before he passed away. As far as Burt abusing Loni, why did she stay with him and why was Burt the one to file for the divorce? Sally said Burt was abusive and controlling and his first wife, Judy Carne said he was physical with her as well. I don't think the public will ever know the full story and it doesn't really matter anymore but I do think that Loni could have NOT opted for the money in the divorce settlement as I don't think she really needed it. Her financial worth was more than his and in my opinion, I feel she did it out of revenge because Burt hurt her.

Burt Reynolds was also in a relationship with Dinah Shore. I know she isn't here to spill the beans on what their relationship was like, but I can't help but at least wonder what it was like for her. Just a thought.

Burt was handsome in his younger years. I didn’t care for the plastic surgery he had done. Loni was cute but she was not Christie Brinkley. Rest In Peace Burt

"A woman named Judy Carne."??? How insulting. Come on fat verse - How about "Actress Judy Carne, star of Laugh in."

I believe Burt more than Lonnie. Why did she wait so long to say he was abusive? He may have been. I totally believe she spent $50K in an hour. I'm sure he wasn't a model husband, however.

Burt had two loves: Sally of course, and Dinah Shore. She wouldn't marry him because of their age difference. She was at least 20 years older than he was, maybe more.
