Jointer Spiral Cutterhead Upgrade

How to upgrade your 6 inch jointer with a spiral helical style cutterhead with carbide indexed knives. Today i upgrade a Grizzly 6inch jointer. This upgrade is for my Grizzly G0814 6 inch jointer, but it can be applied to many jointers on the market. This specific head works on my jointer, you will need to do your research to find the right helical or spiral cutterhead for your tool.

If you have dovetail ways, it seems to me that you’d want to first align the cutter head knives with the in-feed table because you’ll want to shim the out-feed table if shimming is needed. You wouldn’t want to shim the in-feed table because that’s the one that moves.

Just a note, I bought a Grizzy 6" T27698 Cutter head, it cost $304, the big negatives are you need to remove the pulley from the original, plus, there is no bearing heads, plus besides trying to get the old one apart, you need to remove or pull the bearings, my advice would be one that is less labor intensive to just purchase the more expensive kit, much easier to install. If you don't have the required pullers and presses it just sucks to destroy a simple weekend project, ding goes to Grizzly!

Paper under pressure will squish. It will only stay a good hight for a while. Did you think instead about sacrificing a spark plug feeler gauge? And how much was the helical head? Thanks for this too. Great vid.
