I like how we can often come together and recognize the value fire fighters bring.

I worked on CNG engines. The tanks have 3, 500 lbs of compressed natural gas. Scary stuff...

I drove for Amazon for about 9 months and I drove a Volvo Sleeper cab with 3 100 gallon CNG tanks on it. It always stuck in my mind what could really happen if I had an accident and now I know.

This was definitely a BLEVE of the CNG tank. The other tank was feeding the fire which was directly onto the opposite tank which heated to over 5, 000 PSI and then exploded. Much more powerful than a propane tank explosion would be.

Natural gas is so dangerous if handled improperly. Yet so important. Should never be on passenger busses.
Praying for those brave heroes and their families.

I always wondered about the buses that proudly say "powered by clean natural gas". What could possibly go wrong with all those people on board?

I used to drive a CNG bus. I hated it. Diesel had more power, was safer, and was more reliable, and cost a lot less to maintain. The cost we saved on fuel was lost due to extra maintenance and downtime. Even filling it up requires special equipment and it takes much longer. In the end we didn't help the environment at all because of how often we had to trailer them to the shop.

Holy moley! I'm grateful it wasn't worse. I hope those firefighters recover well.
Just a heads up, California... Diesel doesn't do this. Y'all might want to rethink this dangerously impractical alternative energy for EVERYTHING, and maybe consider embracing moderation. By doing so, we'll have less of the scary stuff like this happen!
Please sleep on it.

I misread CNG as GNC and thought, "wow, that's some powerful stuff."

Lots of CNG semi tractors in and out of the ports picking up container trailers. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often. CNG vehicles are a big push by politicians..

Why on earth was something that volatile ever allowed on roads with cars and pedestrians??? Lord Jesus please let these 7 brave firefighters all make full recoveries from their injuries. Praying for the victims and their families.

I worked on CNG Buses for 3 years and NGVI certified, if all safety devices are working properly, this would never happened, the PRD's would have popped off and the CNG would VENT rapidly, and you need between 5% and 15% CNG concentration to be flammable, something failed on the truck to cause an explosion, or it had repairs done on the CNG system and the wrong type of safety device could have been installed.
