Our visit to Wells Bishops Palace and Gardens - A true hidden gem

Our tour of the Bishops Palace and Gardens at Wells starts with an exterior look at the gatehouse and moat on a glorious summer afternoon in July.

However, the next day when we visit, we have the other sort of summer day; the one with rain.

Undeterred, we step into the Bishop's palace and explore 800 years of history, making our way through the various rooms until we reach the Bishop's Chapel.

Braving the weather, we step outside into the gardens formed inside the remains of the Great Hall. Only two walls survive, and now we have a wonderful manicured garden.

We climb onto the rampart walls, and we get views of the moat, Wells Cathedral and a hazy view of the Mendip Hills. On a clear day, you should be able to see Glastonbury Tor in the distance.

A wander on from here to the gardens around Wells Bishops Palace, before we step out of the walls and alongside the moat, past a small waterfall, were we discover a family of swans.

We now step across the moat to more of the gardens, we have 14 acres to discover, but we will amble our way around a large pond to find the three sources of Saint Andrew's Wells. Our tour of the Bishops Palace and Gardens at Wells will conclude here.

Hello once again, and thanks ever so much for yet another splendid video walk - the gardens are just super don`t you think ? I was slightly surprised at some of the interior looks of the Bishops Palace - the rooms have had a substantial makeover since my last visit - somewhat on the bright side, and ever so slightly Victorian Gothic for my taste, but still sumptuous and elegant !!!!
