Wilco in KUTX Studio 1A

Few bands manage to limp into their thirtieth year in any shape at all. Yet Wilco is, as always, an exception to the rule. Notoriously antsy and artistically curious, Jeff Tweedy and his versatile band have not only survived all this time but thrived, without a single hit to their name.

Their newest album, Cousin (released the day of Wilco’s Austin stop) is their ninth album since their six-piece lineup locked down nearly two decades ago, their thirteenth overall. On a long tour for Cousin, Wilco recently stopped in at KUTX to treat a lucky studio audience to a few songs.

Set List:
“Pittsburgh”
“Evicted”
“Cousin”

Album: Cousin (dBpm Records, Sept. 29, 2023)

Musicians: Jeff Tweedy – vocals, Pat Sansone – guitar, keys, John Stirratt – bass, Nels Cline – guitar, Mikael Jorgensen – keys, Glen Kotche - drums

Credits:
Producer: Deidre Gott; Production Assistant: Confucius Jones; Audio Engineer: Jake Perlman, Rene Chavez; Audio Mix: Jake Perlman; Cameras: Michael Minasi, Renee Dominguez, Patricia Lim, Nastassja Collak, Ivy Fowler; Edit: Patricia Lim; Host: Jody Denberg

The musicianship on display here is absolutely insane. If you listen with headphones you can really hear all the subtleties and intricacies that make this band so incredible.

I don't care what you call it. It puts me in a mood. I want to run to my Fenders, a D18, sometimes an ES 125 Gibson, turn it way up and play along. Thanks guys for keeping the guitar strap industry alive. Thanks for the good vibes.

Spectacular. Jeff Tweedy, I am 60. And your music has made the most difference of that of anyone in my life. How great these versions are given that they are essentially recorded in a radio studio is ridiculous. These might as well have been the album versions. Thank you.

Camera person doesn’t like Pat? I mean I love watching Nels work, but the guitar interplay between him and Pat, with a sprinkling of Jeff, is something to really appreciate.

Anyone know what kind of guitar Tweedy is playing? In the first two songs. The other one is a Gibson dove.

It’s a shame. Wilco used to be a rock ‘n roll band. RIP

I'm not going to say they sounded better w/Jay Bennett because they didn't sound all that great then, either...
