As someone who can read 150+ books per year, I confirm that these suggestions are valid. I’m also a slow reader, but I have more time available to devote to reading.

So glad she mentioned kids. I am a mom of 4 one graduated and the rest are still in school. 😁 if I'm lucky I can finish 2 books a month lately it's been one 😆.

It's crazy how much social media and TV takes away from reading time. Sometimes I'm bored but yet end up browsing tiktok when I could've picked up my Kindle and read. I'm a slow reader but I do like to enjoy the books I read.

I love that you mentioned about your situation! I didn't read a single book during my university as well, because of academic and club activities 😩 Now I'm slowly picking back up my reading habit. However, my working hours are long and I burnt out easily, so it made sense that I couldn't read as much as other people here. Thus, prioritizing my time and books I wanna read are so important, or I'll be easily swept away.

This is the first year ive gone back to reading and enjoying it. i stopped reading when i had my first daughter in 2015 + college. I would always BUY books lol and read a book a year or so. This year ive been able to fully go back to reading especially since my tbr pile was extremely huge.
Read 24 books this year which is a first since i was a little kid. I also had my second child this year so lol idk how ive been able to read lol

I listen to audiobooks before bed and that gives me a solid hour of reading. During the day I’m way to busy to read I only have time to read at night. I have several books going at one time. Just to diversify and so I don’t get bored. I find that my hand will start to cramp up if I’m holding a book for to long so I love ebooks and audiobooks for that reason. 😊😊😊

Reading has been my main hobby for a long time, I use to be able to do over 200 a year. That was when I was reading mostly romance and YA. However, the last few years I have started reading adult fantasy so now I am down to 150+ a year. I have been working my way through Malazan this year (on Reaper's Gale now) and I would hate to have to get through those without the audiobook. I also like to crochet and knit, but that is not a hobby that interferes with reading because audiobooks exist.

I get a ton of reading done on the bus and subway! I used to scroll social media mindlessly but now reading helps me *almost* even look forward to spending an hour and a half on the bus several times a week haha since i know thats a solid block of time i can just focus on a book. Thankfully i dont get motion sickness 😅

It's simply just having the right habits at least that's what I've found. For me also diversifying how I read increases the amount I can consume. For me I get up everyday at 4:30 in the morning, throw my earbuds in and on comes an audiobook. Doing this allows me to get three to four solid hours of reading done while also getting in the gym.

I usually read 150+ books per year and about 1/3 is audiobooks. For me it’s more about devoting time! I love to do it so it’s not hard for me to prioritize over other things :)

I have a ton of hobbies, drawing, writing, singing, and playing video games. I also love anime and TV shows. I have to follow the passion to keep myself motivated, so I allow space to switch back and forth. Many nights, I do a little of everything!

I used to struggle to read, only doing it like 2-3 mornings a week, and sometimes not even able to read a full chapter (like when I read GoT lol) but audiobooks helped me make it a habit and now it's part of my routine. I substituted watching YouTube videos of people talking about books to actually reading more books. Once I finally accepted that reading an audiobook was still reading. 😅

This video was full of great reminders, it's important that if you want to read more, you need to ask yourself: what free-time do I have, what am I doing with it and am I willing to sacrifice some of my time doing one thing to focus more on reading?

I find it super fascinating how you explained your process to learning how to listen to an audiobook. I listen at the same speed as you 1.5-1.75. I started listening only while walking and then started incorporating it more and more into my life. Now I mostly listen to audiobooks whenever I'm doing something that doesn't take much mental space, like cooking and cleaning.

That's such a great point about social media. I think that's so real. I had to delete TikTok cause it was stealing almost an hour from me every day. The screen time features were the best thing that ever happened for me to get off those apps and doing something more productive.

Yes!! I didn't really get to read a lot until I graduated school! Great tips, I can relate/ do a lot of these!

Yessss audio books help me consume so many more books! I have gone back to school this last year and my reading amount had gone down but I’ve found a little time here and there. Will be done in April and looking forward to not having to reading anything academic related 😅 thanks for sharing all the tips!

This is all great advice! It all comes down so much to personal preference and practice. I couldn’t listen to an audiobook to save my life until I realised I can actually get into it if it’s not fantasy and I need it to be first-person or non-fiction (if it’s not too science-y and requires a lot of brain power). So now I listen to a lot of memoirs and self-development books on 1.5 speed tops if the author is reaaally slow and that works for me perfectly!

I loved this video! I also never thought I'd be able to get into audiobooks and I just had to take it super slow at first. Now I can listen to most audiobooks at 1.8X speed and it's how I get through the majority of books since I have the ability (and privilege) to be able to listen to my headphones at work for a decent part of the day when I'm in the lab. I also love reading on my phone during my commute since I take the train into work now and sometimes it's hard to hold open a book and also stand on the train. I find that I actually physically read only about three books a month but I am hoping to improve those numbers by having more dedicated weekend reading time.

Very encouraging! I was so overwhelmed at a bar my SpongeBob self brought a book with me, I think people we’re teasing me and one made a joke for those whom barely read 1 book a year. As seen in a comment below and I’m happily to be part of the club…. I think I am inspired to listen to audiobooks. Many thanks, blessings! 😄

Lots great tips, thank u so much! I'm mood reader. I'm reading three books right now: two fantasy and one romance mystery. I'll pick up one book read it for awhile & than I'll put it down & decided picked up another book; read for awhile & than I will go back to the Previous book i picked up & continued read from where I've lefted off.

100% agree that Audiobooks is the key. I love being able to listen while doing other things but also they are super helpful when I find myself distracted. I really enjoy emersion reading- it helps keep me focus and moving along in the stories (and some audiobooks are an amazing production with sounds, etc). I too, ALWAYS have a book with me regardless to where I'm going. I also found that picking up certain books works at certain times in the day for me. If the book requires more focus I typically pick those up in the morning/early in the day. Lighter reads are saved for the evening when I just want to relax.
