The break in isn't just for the engine. The engine will be broke in well within 100 miles with these newer tech engines. The rest of the break in is for the clutches and other mechanical mating surfaces (transmission & differential). You don't run the risk of breaking anything putting full load on the various car parts prior to break in, but you do risk the chance of causing an odd wear pattern with the mechanical parts, creating noise/whine. At least wait 500 miles.

Man, if the manual says 1000 break in miles do the 1000 miles. Cruise and enjoy it. It's too expensive of a car to not do the breakin period properly.

Hey, just want to thank you for making a "shout out" to a serviceman. I do not know the guy or ever heard of him but anyone how shows the respect to out service men and women is a big deal to them. Great looking GT500 and fantastic options. I'm a fan of heated and cooled seats vs the tight fitting Recaros. Nice choice. Fyi. The Shelby GT500 Predator block is the same block as used in the Mustang Cobra Jet. No ticking other than possibly injector noise.
