WOW! What a voice. I remember when I was four years old and my grandpa played Andy Williams' Moon River... I cried so hard because it sounded so beautiful to me. My grandpa picked me up into his arms and hugged me, so as to comfort me. That was one of my best life experiences.

Wow...i didnt know Andy sang this song. In my younger days and through the radio stations, i had always heard the musical version by Acker Bilk. It was so soothing and i never get tired listening to Acker Bilk. But now with lyrics, Andy Williams has sung it so well. Thanks for uploading this song.

I remembered the melody from days long passed. I hummed it for Google and it brought me here. I mostly recall the clarinet version but the lyrics and Andy Williams are a big bonus.

This genre of music is a treasure from a time of relative peace and prosperity for the U.S.. It was a much less stressful time that all changed on November 22 1962 with the assassination of JFK the year this song was released. Andy Williams, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Matt Monro and others would melt many a woman’s heart.

I read that in 1948 Acker Bilk, the composer, was in jail in North Africa somewhere because he had fallen asleep at his British military post. They let him have his clarinet in jail and that's when he wrote this song. I don't think he wrote lyrics to it, but maybe he did. He later had a music group named I think "The Paramounts" or something like that. When I was a kid I bonded with this song. It was a hit. My hometown radio station played it a lot and also at night I kept my little pocket transistor radio to my ear and tuned in stations from all over and heard it from afar as well. Little did I know years later I would have it on my solo piano album, "Red Sky At Night", and so glad to have chosen this amazing melody. I didn't know Andy sung this, wow, what an amazing voice, and he always was so radiant a person and watched his TV show a few times before I quit watching TV when I was 14, in 1968.

Worked at Pebble Beach in the 80s, ..., PLEASE do not ask what Andy Williams was "really" like. It is still a pretty well-kept secret to the public but to live in Monterey CA, going to the Crosby, and seeing the real side of the celebrities, .., well you would not want to know at least ONE of THEM. Such a timeless and beautiful voice coming out of such a mean natured person is almost unbelievable.
