Imagine the feeling of your first TV in your home. It must have felt like magic.

I still find it kind of magical to see a moving picture and hear sound on a device like that. Moving life inside of a cold conglomeration of metal and glass. Imagine what it was like at the time when TV was new and you had this in your house. It must have been mind blowing.

Omg...I almost forgot that TVs had to "warm up" before the picture would appear...

My grandparents had a old tube tv, I could hear it warm up across the room. Picture would roll and Grandpa with hit his hand on it and straighted it out

I grew up with CRTs in the 90s. Many had built-in warming circuits that allowed the CRT to come on almost instantly. One evening the warming circuit failed in our TV after a lightning storm. I remember it warming slowly like that and my Dad commenting that he had to wait for the tubes in the audio circuit to warm up when he was a kid in the 60s. Now my kids watch on an LCD screen. The improvements in technology through the decades are truly amazing.

Perfect choice of programme to use...."The Honeymooners". I love old vintage electronics, they were classy, built to last and had character. AND they weren't all plastic.

I’m amazed you touched that with your bare hands. My parents had an early 70s Zenith cabinet tv and by the mid 80s that thing was giving off such a charge that it’d make your fingers tingle. Plus it had this spooky way of turning itself on in the middle of the night.

What I’d really love to see working again was this cabinet shortwave Radio my dad has that lists shortwave stations from North America South America Europe and other locations, but I’m guessing that most of those stations no longer exist

The picture looks surprisingly clear and sharp for a 1949 tv!

I had a black and white TV in my room when I was a kid. It was made in the early 60's. I remember it took a few seconds for the picture to appear.

We had an old black and white tube TV in the basement in the 70s and even until the mid 80s. It was a great TV to have in the basement because it would keep you warm! :-)

Within 15 seconds it was apparent that The Honeymooners was better than anything on TV today.

I have a 1949 restored Admiral. It has a 17" square tube. Elegant design! Simple. easy to restore. Works great. Found it at the dump, ready to be crushed. rescued & restored it. Rebuilt CRT worked like new.
