David explains how to read a position vs. time graph. He then explains how to use the graph to determine the following quantities: displacement, distance, average velocity, average speed, instantaneous velocity, and instantaneous speed.

Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

"Physicists love this, teachers love this--"

And as a sophomore in a room of juniors and seniors who knew what they were doing, I am dead.

Dear Sal Khan,

I hope your year is off to a great start! I am learning Physics now, and my teachers are having me watch this video. I must say, it is very well made! Thank you for all you have done for students around the globe.

With gratitude,
Ezra

P.S. Please consider teaching at our school. We would be happy to have you!

Thank you for caring for the turtle's safty!
The turtle should have read the intructions on her jet pack before launching into space...

I love silly examples. They usually stay in head a lot more than regular ones.

I had a quick question about what the INSTANTANEOUS VELOCITY of the turtle would be at "t= 4 seconds"? Because there's a corner and according to calculus, when you have a "CORNER" or a "CUSP" in the graph, it has "NO DERIVATIVE", that is you CANNOT DETERMINE the SLOPE of a "CORNER/END POINT/ CUSP". Besides, this graph CHANGES slope SUDDENLY at t=4 seconds. So, can we determine the instantaneous velocity at t= 4 seconds?
