My mom had that exact same surgery and she did not whatsoever keep to the plan she's lost weight and she hasn't really had any complications. They tell you that because they want to scare you as long as you stick to the plan when you first get it and give your stomach time to heal and everything eventually they'll tell you just eat whatever you want just eat it in small portions and that's exactly what they told my mom and she's been doing perfectly fine with it

The surgery works better than the doctor explained, I had the gastric bypass surgery done when I was 17, now I’m 24. If you try to eat to much you will feel a great deal of pain, you eat small portions 5-6 times a day! You can still eat all the food you like only a smaller portion and no drink after eating! You can still drink alcohol but you get drunk faster. You need to take vitamins every day until you die. If you want to live you will make it work, you don’t need to follow the restrictions of the surgery like religious, I don’t. I have not gain weight, actually it’s so damn hard to gain weight. I almost got too slim. Tried to gain a bit of weight and it was pure torture. But I’m so much healthier now than I was before! I feel better and happier, more energetic and my body (hips, back, knees) doesn’t hurt anymore.
