One of the questions I often get on stream is this - "I am new to cybersecurity, how can I get started doing CTFs on platforms like Hack the Box and TryHackMe?"

In this video, I provide a detailed guide to getting the foundational knowledge you need to begin working through CTFs.

Enjoy!

Hello, Tyler here. I only recently have started delving into this realm; new enough to where idk buzzwords this that the other.

This showed up in my feed; good teaching ethics. Absolutely click guided. There is a reason it is there. If you copy and paste answers %100 participation trophy. You will forever and always find new things you don't know of, and that's the glamor.

inaction is a slow death.

Notes is a wonderful way to reinforce learning. I started doing writeups and being able to go back and reference similar attacks works wonders.

Great Vid! Personally as a complete newbie half a year ago I chose THM to start with since the modules were more theoritical in a way and kinda felt more hand held as opposed to HTB! Decided to switch to HTB a month ago (after completing all offensive related paths in THM and around 50-60 easy-medium CTFs) for the CPTS certificate and the transition was smoother than i expected

Yo Tyler have you considered making a list of machines you liked the most from thm, htb etc ?

Just like you, many people prefer realistic machined over CTF-like machines.

Love the video! I’m going down the blue team path and found THM to be a good starting point as well. Did pre security then their SOC level 1 now I’m on hackthebox academy doing their content, planning on doing the Sherlock’s on the HTB platform in a similar process to how you suggested.
