In this week’s video, I make a magnetic router and drill bit storage rack that can store a decent number of bits in any order you choose. The magnetic shelves will keep the bits where you put them and offers a clean and tidy storage solution while making you drill bits and router bits accessible in the workshop.

Nice build. I have been using magnet bars for easy collection of drill bits, etc. for sometime now. I didn't organize in a box, just clamped the magnetic bars to my workbench metal sections. I like your box idea, can easily hang by putting a french cleat on the side of one of a shop cabinet - or work benches. Still building out my shop so will see how to incorporate.

I think I like that better than the ones with holes too! Very nice.

Awesome build Eric, Thank you for sharing. it is greatly appreciated.

I was also going to comment on the screws sticking through the wooden shelf base, but as you have already covered the subject with other concerns from your fans,

All I would like to add is, I would have done that part differently myself.

I would use nuts and bolts rather than screws, After drilling the holes for the magnetic strips, I would have flipped the boards and drilled in a recess for the nut to sit in. It's nither a better or worse way of doing it, just a different way, and take's nothing away from your great build.

All the best to you Eric, from North London U.K. 👍😎

Those magnet strips are available at Harbor Freight for just a few bucks each. I even got a couple for free with Christmas coupons last month! I use them all over my shop, probably have a dozen of them at this time in various places. Their use is only limited by your imagination!

I like the versatility of the magnet. It would be great for router bits and drill bits that will only be used on wood (brad, fostner). I don't like the idea of magnetizing any drill bits that I will use on metal as the shavings will be a pain to clear. Nice project.

Great build Eric very handy to have, my Router bits are all together in a box on a shelf, so this is a great idea. Well Done.
Merry Christmas to You and Your Family, hope you all have a great 2019.

I liked the project and I was intrigued by the variable square that appears in the video, do you have any reference to buy it? Thank you for your time and your attention.

Good idea with the plastic tubes, I use them for small dia drill bits. Those are so easily lost.

Would you please share the source for the protractor?

Really cool idea - and I JUST realized the GluBot cap goes on the bottle top when in use - duh !Why did you not dado the back of the shelf and make the magnetic strips hidden ?  Would they not be strong enough to hold through, say, 1/4" of wood ?
