Macron is a strong believer in EU Strategic Autonomy. In his visit to China and in a speech in the Hague, the Netherlands, he laid out his 5 pillar plan for Europe to become a third power on the World Stage. This video will look at his plan, of how he wants the European Union to develop into a superpower with limited dependencies on China and the USA.

Indeed. Europe needs to be more autonomous, and take responsibility for its own defense.

As an Irish and EU citizen, I support the idea of a more independent Europe

Seriously, I never thought I would say this, but it looks like Macron is the only leader of a big European country looking to the challenges of the future of the EU, and actually coming up with a few solutions.

Macron is spot on, EU needs to come together and stand up among the great powers

Macron is quite the contrvertial figure, but controversy aside he has a very good point, Europe must remain strong and become more indipendent from both the USA and China.

Once you go past the rhetorical scandals, his vision makes a lot of sense. I thought that common defence spending was one of his pillars though? Strategic autonomy is definitely the right direction, though!

As an American (albeit with European roots), I fully support the idea of European sovereignty. Healthy relationships must be built on trust, and no one party should dominate. A Europe that can effectively handle its own affairs would positively help the United States save its attention for more pressing geopolitical issues. A strong Europe would also be a very positive signal to the world that the ideas of freedom, democracy, and human rights aren't just cover for US foreign policy interests, and the international rules-based system could strengthen as a result.

The eu needs to be independent. It's important for europe to strive for independence in high technology areas, especially considering that europe may not have achieved the same level of independence as china did in the 80's in areas such as military, space(their own international station), technology (internet), manufacturing, and economy. It would be great if europe can work towards reaching a level of competitiveness with both china and the usa in those domains.

I view Macron's proposals as mere common sense and overdue for implementation.

Considering the euro currency, it's relatively new, 22 years. I mean that we are a new country trying to integrate 27 different economies, and it needed time to get there. We have gone through major crises recently, the financial crisis in 2008, the debt crisis in 2011, covid, and now the war, and honestly, we improved and made the EU stronger. I totally agree with Macron's project; we must dream bigger and together. Even if there are 27 different countries, we share a common history and beliefs. We can and should continue along this integration path, and the next future has to be towards this goal.

I feel kind of bad for Macron. The change'ls he's making are necessary, and they'll hate him every step of the way.

and yet he works overtime to prevent Africa (particularly Ivory Coast) from wanting the same 😂

Nice Video as always.
Great work you are doing.

I agree to Macron that EU should not be a Vassal of US or China but i disagree on the Taiwan Conflict.
EU and US should be strong partners and we should defend democracies all over the world.

Many of the strongest and most innovative countries in the world are democracies and we should use our strength to limit dictatorships and autocracies instead of becoming economically dependent on them.

Macron does raise some valid points, but his credibility, along with that of other Western European leaders, is quite limited in the Central and Eastern European region. When the conflict began, France and Germany hesitated in their decision to support Ukraine, whereas the United States acted decisively. This sent a powerful signal to countries like Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria. The misstep is likely to have long-term repercussions, as Eastern European nations intensify efforts to forge an alliance and strengthen ties with the United States.

That's not really how the US's single market works. Startups have to comply to both state and federal law. If a company wants to expand into another state they must comply with their regulations. The only quasi exception to this is if it is an internet or mail order based company. We treat those companies slightly differently.

French leaders always have a vision for Europe. The key lies in persuading others.

I think the majority of us (the EU citizens) supports the idea of more independent Europe. Because we know we have the potential! But we have to reform the EU and its policies. We need aims and directions. I know many people won’t agree with me but what Mr.Macron said during this conference is true and I believe he is the one that should lead the EU towards a better future after his second term as president of France. I don’t think our current leaders are optimistic and enthusiastic enough to be there. Greetings and good health to everyone who reads this!
