However keep in mind that if it is an American porcupine, then yeah you’re kinda screwed because they have barbs on the tip so that when they go in they don’t come out easy and stay in. Only the American porcupine has quills like that while the African porcupine simply has really sharp quills with no barbs

Fun fact: African Porcupine quills have serrated edges that look like several arrowheads lined up end to end. This allows the quill to drive deeper into flesh and make it harder to pull out safely without ripping out large chunks of skin.

It is like a nail, once scratched, infection occurs, and the wound takes months to heal. Like any cat, dog, tiger etc.
