5DS-R vs D810 vs 5D Mk III: Landscape Photography (with tips!)

We test the Canon 5DS-R vs the 5D Mark III and D810 for sharpness, dynamic range, and high-ISO noise. Buy the cameras here:

Note: You can turn on Exposure Delay on the D810 (d4) to get a similar effect to the 5DS-R's mirror lockup delay. It's just an extra step, and some argue the maximum delay of 3 seconds isn't long enough.

I know this is a rather "old" video (shot over 5 years before I saw it), but it is one of the most informative videos about photography that I've seen from ANYONE. I've primarily been shooting real estate for several decades, and I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your videos, in general. And, how much I appreciate THIS particular video. Thanks much.

Best reviewer on website showing real life examples instead of black box tests.

I think mirrorlockup doesn't work in Live View is because it doesn't need to be, since the mirror is already "up"

When you said the 5D3 is a dinosaur, my own 5D3 roared, then yawned, and finally rolled onto its side. Cameras are such divas, amirite?

Fun review, by the by!

Finally someone actually tested one's older glass with the 50 megapixel sensor which I had done myself and have written several times about the fact that with a high res sensor those supposedly lesser lenses have plenty of resolution and thus the 5DSR can upgrade all that glass you already own. It is easily proved so don't be suckered into buying a set of new lenses until you check your own stable of lenses as I have done finding in my case at least that every lens I have were far superior on the new body.

I have recently acquired a D810 and it works just fine, it depends what your subject is but you're getting a lot of camera for the money.  Some people say that D810 images tend to be a little grainy but fundamentally it's down to the skill of the photographer to properly capture the image with the equipment.  For Nikon users, the upgrade from D800 to D810 is worth it in my opinion. Nikon D810 Excellent

Nice to see I could still get detailed results using my 24-105 on a 5DS-R, I love the lens and what it can do on even a 6D.

Thanks Tony. With the extensive research I've done is pretty much convinced myself to go with the 5DS R but knowing you had actually run the beta camera through your on tests coupled with your reputation, I knew I was going to allow your POV to tip the scales. Much appreciated.

Very nice work Tony, Chelsea, Justin and Siobhan. You asked what else people would like to see, and I really wanted to see some lower end lenses, and you nailed it.

Keep up the great work, and also cool to see production values continuing to improve,

@6:15 you don't need mirror lockup in Live-View mode because it's already locked up for live view to work and does not drop for the picture to be taken. Not due to camera beta, it's as designed. Yes I am commenting on a 6+ year old video. No, I don't know why.

As always, great video and great work. I love watching your reviews and analysis. Thumps up for both of you! Thanks for producing more or less the best videos on YouTube.

I have used both and I can say if you love your post editing RAW at 50 MPix then the 5DS has to be your choice. I just did a session in the Post edit studio and the results that the 5DS pump out allow you MUCH more editing options than the MarkIII. Everyone talks about technical aspects but you need to address POST EDITING. That is where it shines for the pro or artist. For weddings you only get a few shots of the same shoot. Using RAW at 50 its like have an insurance policy. So to conclude the Mark III is awesome no doubt but the 5DS is built for software and \POST EDITING thats the real fun in creativity.

Right now I have a 7D but the 5DSR is probably my dream camera.

Also I appreciate you guys uploading these 5Dsr Videos in 4K as I am watching on a calibrated 5K iMac.  I will reserve more judgement until I have an opportunity to actually have both camera's RAW files, which is something you can think about releasing as even watching in 4K it is a hard battle against the D810, but for now I think I'm gonna stay with mine.
