I just realized that the reason he suggests to use forensics on the book is to have physical evidence he isnt kira because his fingerprints wouldnt be on the book, other than where he handled it in front of L. Because remember when he had handed the book in a circle from Rem to Ryuk, to back to him he picked up the book with a piece of cloth? That was because when it passed from shinigamis it was technically out of the physical world so all of lights finger prints wouldve fallen off.
