How else do you think shareholders were going to pay for that Activision acquisition? Fairy Dust?

No one smart actually believed Microsoft buying Bethesda or ABK, let alone BOTH, was a good thing for the industry. Regulators truly failed at their jobs.

Gen AI pretty much eliminates the need for a lot of junior folks who were responsible for doing the drudge work that can now be performed by an LLM. It doesn't mean there's no demand for tech talent, it's just that the entry bar is higher now. Same goes for the media industry, if your job involved producing garbage content, AI can do it for (nearly) free.

2010-2020 was the honeymoon phase for tech workers. Plenty of free money and hiring talent in abundance. However, tech companies are realizing paying multiple employees 6 figure salaries for working 3-4 hours a day ain’t it.

This has nothing to do with AI, if it does, it's a tiny aspect.

Microsoft is most likely laying off marketing staff, HR, middle-managers, and other people who are not generating any revenue and are redundant across Microsoft and Activision. Layoffs are perfectly normal when a company gets acquired or even when it's a merger of "two equals".

The competition is fierce. There is alot of gamers but also alot of games. I think biggers studios need to step it up because of the garbage they realesed. It takes years to build trust but days to destroy it.The smaller and medium studios is getting bigger.

Reswizzling w/RIFs is normal in tech since the industry’s inception. It’s an opportunity for workers to retool, find a better paying job at another company, and continue an upward trajectory.
