In this video we are going to show you how the CimTrak system works to detect changes to your ESXi HOSTS. With the system in place you can be alerted to any changes and quickly respond.

This is the CimTrak Management Console as well as a CimTrak Network Agent with the ESXi Configuration Monitor plugin installed.

To start monitoring the ESXi Host, first right click the agent and make a new object group. From the drop down list, choose “ESX Monitor” and enter in the credentials

CimTrak will connect to the host and display the directory structure in the tree view on the left.

In this example we will watch every file by checkmarking the parent node.

Now that the monitoring policy is configured, we can go into VSphere and start making some changes.

You can see that an Ubuntu virtual machine is being deleted. Next a new test pool is added. And finally the test role is deleted.

Now lets go back to the management console.

In the event log all the change events have come through, the pool DOT XML file has been modified.

We can right click each event and do a compare to see the changes

We see the added test Pool in green. The role change will be found in the Authorization DOT XML file. If we compare this, here in red is the test role that was deleted and then comparing the inventory DOT xml file, we will see the deletion of the Ubuntu virtual machine in red.
