On the 1970 album "Tumbleweed Connection." The lyricist Bernie Taupin suggested that Ray Williams, the man who introduced Elton and Bernie, name his daughter Amoreena. He did, and Taupin then wrote this song. The song was also used in the opening of the film "Dog Day Afternoon." On the album, it was the first recording of Elton backed by Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson, who were already touring with him as a live band. Caleb Quaye played guitar and Elton added organ.
Produced by Gus Dudgeon. Recorded at Trident Studios, London.

Lately I have been thinking how much I miss my songs on the Tumbleweed Connection are just the best that Elton and Bernie put together...a flavour of country mixed with ro ck and pop...well...Elton and Bernie have always been country after all...haven't they....love them both immensely

To those that care
The pic is Elton John,
Dee Murray, and Nigel Olsen (Black hair)...
Went to see them in Dallas May of 1970. I was 15, about 2500
people attended.
They absolutely blew that place away. There was so much energy and entertainment and a WALL of sound.
A year and a half later he was in the Cotton bowl in Dallas, Texas 30, 000 ish people. His music was like no others during that era and the lyrics were like no others (hence the number one songs) and I would even say today the lyrics aren't near as deep and as thoughtful as a modern day
Shakespeare...such as

such as "lusty flower".

Then to fit the music and meter through all the different keys, to the words is just genius.
It Was a great time to be alive!!!
I am greatful to still be alive....to listen to this again....and suddenly
be 15 is good
class '58
R.I.P. dad....see you in a bit!!!

I place "Tumbleweed Connection" among the best country albums with a rock 'n roll flavor. Really superb story- telling based on country and western/Americana themes, by two young English rockers from the early 70s!
Bernie Taupin didn't get the credit he deserved for the magic he created with the gifted Elton John.
Taupin's lyrics often skewed toward country and Americana, reflecting his lifelong interest in music and artists from the American South.

I loved it so much that I named my favorite cat, of all times, after this song. Her name was Namoreena, born in Montana, and buried on top of Mauna Kea, here on the Big Island. She sees the sunrise every morning, being interred at 12, 000 feet in her own private mausoleum.

Bernie really knocked it out of the park with these lyrics, and only Elton could deliver it right. Amazing stuff. Dog Day Afternoon brought me here btw.

Just lately, I've been thinking, how much I miss my lady
Amoreena's in the cornfield, brightening the daybreak
Living like a lusty flower, running through the grass for hours
Rolling through the hay like a puppy child
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And she dreams of crystal streams
Of days gone by when we would lean
Laughing, fit to burst, upon each other
I can see you sitting, eating apples in the evening
The fruit juice flowing sweetly down the bronze of your body
Living like a lusty flower, running through the grass for hours
Rolling through the hay, yeah yeah, like a puppy child
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And she dreams of crystal streams
Of days gone by when we would lean
Laughing, fit to burst, on each other
If only, I was nestling in the cradle of your cabin
My arms around your shoulders, the windows wide and open
While the songbirds and the sycamore are growing in the valley
Oh, I miss you Amoreena, like the king bee misses honey
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And she dreams of crystal streams
Of days gone by when we would lean
Laughing, fit to burst, on each other
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town

I wish he had done this in his Farewell Tour... I remember a recent interview when he said he wanted to do it...
