Ebay was never seller focused. Maybe in the late 90s-early 2000s, but not at all in the recent decade. My dad used to sell his covers and stamps and 90% of the time, the buyer received the item (we saw it through tracking) but complained they didn't receive it and my dad had to refund them. i told him he's naïve and this sleazy company will never take the seller's side. After some hefty losses i practically forced him to close the shop.
He spent his entire life collecting these stuffs, so im not gonna let him lose his entire thing. He sells locally now. Much, much happier and he made many new friends!

I've been using eBay for 25+ years and they have ALWAYS been unethical. I've always trusted them to screw me and everyone else just for craps and giggles. The sad truth is that there is no practical alternative today. Perhaps someday.
