The object of the game is to capture every opponent piece. Setup: Layout the board and each player picks a color. The players sit across from each other and place their pieces on the first 3 rows of one of the colors of the board. It doesn’t matter which color you choose, but you both have to place them on the same color. If your pieces have a crown on one side, place your pieces crown side down.

Players take turns moving one piece diagonally from one square to an empty square of the same color. Prices may only travel forward toward your opponent’s side of the board, they may not travel backwards.

If there is an opponent’s piece in the way but the space beyond that piece is available, you must jump that piece in a straight line and land on the other side. The jumped piece is removed from the board and captured by the player who jumped it. You may not jump off the board.

If you have an available jump of an opponent’s piece, you must jump it. If after one jump your piece is in a position to jump again, you must make another immediate jump, until there are no more jumps left. If you have multiple jumps available, you may pick which one to jump. You may not jump more than 1 space.

Once your piece makes it the farthest row nearest your opponent, your piece gets a promotion and becomes a king. Stack two pieces on top of each other, or flip one over to reveal the crown side, to know which pieces are kings and which ones aren’t. King pieces may move backwards and forward. Kings may be taken like any normal piece when jumped.

The first player to capture all the opponent’s pieces wins. If it is your turn and there is no legal move available for you to make, then you forfeit and your opponent wins.

I’m 24 years old and have never learned to play checkers, every now and then when my fiancé feels like messing with me she’ll send me an iMessage checkers game, today was the last straw, I watched this video and instead of laughing it off I played her back, dominated her down to one piece on the board and the 3 I had left were all kings, she hit me with the ol’ “I don’t wanna play anymore” and today I raise my fist in victory due to you kind sir, thank you

Kings can also jump both forward and backward (diagonally) in the same turn, a multi-direction multi-jump.

When I was originally taught checkers (when I was a kid), it did not have a forced move rule. Then my great aunt taught me the forced move rule, but it was a bit different from the one here and from the variant presented in the later Megacheckers video: If you could take a jump, you had the option to refuse, but then the other player could remove the piece that had the option to remove the piece that could have taken the jump (or 1 of 2 pieces having such an option if you refused on both), unlike the variant Megacheckers rule that allows them to remove any piece of their choice.

I don't know for sure where the versions are popular, but in the version I know from Russian sources, kings can move any number of squares and all pieces can capture backwards (but normal pieces can't do regular moves backwards)

In my place, the King range is like Bishop and the method of capture is even more broken. Since the King can now go any direction he wants, it is possible to go in loop and capture as much pieces as possible as long as the next captured pieces is 2 spaces next to the previous one.

For example, it is possible to capture pieces that is in this pattern;

💙💙💙💙💙
💙❤️💙❤️💙
💙💙💙💙💙
💙❤️💙❤️💙
💙💙💙💙💙

Where ❤️ is the enemy pieces, by jumping over and make a loop.

Once you got the King then you're pretty much set in my place's variant.

I've played checkers all my life, great fun game with friends...

But, one night a new mate come to play and never in my life have I heard of this 'must jump' rule if indeed the jump is on!

Always for the past 12 years we played to jump or not is always optional.

I have played with countless players over the years...

My mind is blown..

Is this new to anyone else?

"Mark it as a king by flipping it over to crown side or stacking another checker on top of it"
Or, as I do, both.
