Understanding how your score gets added up when it comes to bowling can be quite confusing. Even if the screen does most of the work...

For those who didn’t find the explanation they were wanting from this video, when you have a strike (X) it is worth 10 points but the rest of the points you get on that strike depends on what you bowl the next two times you go. For example: if you bowl three strikes in a row, that first strike is worth 30 (10x3) but in the example he gives where you shoot two strikes and then get 7, that first strike would be worth 27. A spare (/) will be worth 10 points just like a strike, but a spare only adds one bowl in the following frame. For example: if you get a spare and then a strike, that spare is worth 20 points, but if you get a spare and then 5 pins, it’s worth 15 points. The only exception to this is in the final 10th bowl because this “frame” as they are called, is maxed out @ 30 points. So 2 strikes in the 10th frame are only worth 20 points. Another thing about the 10th frame is if you bowl a strike in the first bowl or get a spare, you get to bowl three times in the frame. This is how you can get a 300 game. The first 9 strikes will all have 2 strikes in front of them making them all worth 30, for a total of 270 (9x30) and then the final three will only add up to 30 since, as I mentioned, they only count for the base 10.

How do you get 300 if each strike is 10

So the one part that isn't obvious "depends". Gee, thanks.

The only remotely complicated part is the part you didn't explain at all.

If there are 10 rounds, why would the person making the maximum score need 12 strikes?
