Hi, I'm Randy Sebastian, President of Renaissance Homes. We're doing a video series to explain to you guys exactly why Renaissance Homes are built better than any other builders and then detail the construction process of what we do to build you the most energy efficient, best built home in Portland. We're in fact the number one LEED builder in the state, no other builder builds as many LEED certified homes as we do and there's a reason for that: Renaissance Homes are just built better. So I want to show you guys exactly what we do.

Here we are in a home that's just been insulated, drywall will go on next but this our Polar Blanket insulation. We are one of the only builders in Portland that uses Polar Blanket. And what it is, is it's a blown fiberglass. You see the cut right here in the cheesecloth? They have a hose they blow it in and it spreads to the wall cavity and just packs it tight. If there are electrical boxes or plumbing pipes or anything it packs around it gives us a complete R-23 insulation in the walls.

We're seeing energy bills in the $80 a month for 2600, 2700 foot homes. That's electrical and gas in the winter so our homes are very efficient. In fact, this spring our home on 20th and Hawthorne won the best energy efficient home built in the city. It won the performance score for earth advantage. So the way we build standardly beat all the other builders.

Here we are just for drywall. Our Polar Blanket's in, all the air infiltrations have been caulked and stopped. In addition to that as you know we use all kiln dried lumber. We start with less moisture with the kiln dried lumber then we also dry it out I'll talk about that in a little bit. We have a moisture meter, we make sure that the home is at least eighteen percent or drier before we put sheetrock in. How we get that is we use a dehumidifier and these big fans and it takes about two weeks to completely dry a home out but since we've doing that we've eliminated nail pops, corner pops, and squeaks. So, I mean, are homes are rock solid.
