The Drycake Twister Food Depackaging and Separator System.

The Twister Depackager and Separator is one of the current purpose designed generation of these units. It is intended from the outset for mixed food waste and BMW (Biodegradable Municipal Waste). It has been designed to avoid breaking up plastics and keep them whole as far as possible.

By so doing, it sets out to avoid the creation of the environmentally damaging microplastics found in the stomachs of birds and other wildlife.

As Drycake's third generation of its patented vertical cyclonic separation technology, it is primarily intended to produce a suitable depackaged food waste substrate for AD plants.

The Twister operates on the principle of a separation vortex. The system consists of a feed hopper with an upper screw auger to prevent material hang up bridging and a lower screw auger to feed the machine.

The unit debags in the hopper, so no prior size reduction is required. A vortex is formed in the screening drum. This simultaneously forces the organics through the screen while the packaging is ejected for discharge.

High-speed impact and vibration against the screens in the high-velocity air of the turbo-induced vortex add a dry-cleaning effect while the organic fraction moves on via an augur to a separate unit.

The Seditank unit removes silt, sand, and grit from the food and any other organic content. It is prest to adjust the water content to suit the requirements of the digester.

It uses density variations to separate floatables like plastics with automated baffles and removes settled heavier sand, silt, and grit with an auger.

Any bits of plastic are removed in the Seditank to a high degree, and the avoidance of the hammering crushing and shredding action of earlier generation depackagers has an additional benefit in the low microplastics content and reduced power consumption of the Twister plus Seditank combination.

By producing a remarkably clean and relatively dry plastic (rejects) output, with larger pieces than comparable models, any subsequent separation of the recyclable plastic by polymer is made easier.
