Mike McCardell interviewed me for a BCTV (I think) clip around 1989 when I bought a US imported Xmas tree in North Van.Recently he shot a clip outside of my home near Granville Island about a retired helicopter pilot scooping up goose shit off the seawall. Great lifetime of stories. Happy gardening :)

Having grown up watching Mike's stories I can only thank CTV for giving him a place after Global foolishly let him go. Some years back my father watched one of Mike's segments about a fisherman, and my father recognized the man as a childhood buddy back when his family lived on the north shore. He was able to find a phone number and reconnect after several decades. My dad's gone now, and I suspect his friend is too, but thank you Mike for your part in helping to make that happen & for your many, many years of lovely human stories.

What an inspiration of a human being. How lucky we in the Vancouver area are to enjoy Mike's different stories and his unique sense of humour. We are going to miss him and wish this national treasure a very happy retirement and here is a great big thank you.

I am 3 gens in Vancouver. I always loved his stories on the news. It was always comforting and he reached out to the simple people in Vancouver. I never knew he was from New York originally and or married to a beautiful black woman. How nice is it that he could come here and he and his wife could live in harmony in our city. Mike marks one of the many ends in Vancouver that made this city what it was. He always had a great story to tell. I always looked forward to his moments on the news. I cant believe that he is 80. He looks fantastic. I am sorry his wife passed away. Wish him all the best in his retirement years. He was a fantastic reporter. I totally relate with the reading of letters. Thank you for your devotion to this city of Vancouver that we all called home all these years.

Mike McCartell's stories of normal people doing normal, nice things is the MAIN reason I would watch whichever broadcaster ended their newscasts with his reports. After a long lineup of dismal news about crime, corruption, chaos and disaster, it was always nice to be reminded that the world at large is full of everyday people busy doing everyday, decent things. THANK-YOU MIKE for making news bearable.

Im part of the Mike McCardell story. He interviewed me years ago in my car for half a second while I was studying for an exam - at a traffic light! Enjoy your retirement Mike!

It's a bit rediculous that I cannot share such a beautiful life, story and legacy, to my Facebook contacts due to the limitations on sharing Canadian news on social media. This is NOT news as much as an inspiring, feel good, story that is a tribute to a legend and unique calling and vocation. Grace and peace to you Mike in your retirement, especially in the aftermath of losing your supportive wife/life partner, and no doubt your biggest fan, among thousands!
