Exactly what I practice. Right now, I have three groups of birds. The young groups were bought on two occasions back in the late summer that consist of Buffs, Rhode Island Reds, and Dominics.

This was easy for me. I lucked out because they were all pullets even though I bought 2 sets from separate farms. The 2 sets were about 3 weeks apart. This was a win in terms of the behavior side of things. They all had their shots and were still relatively young.

Our Red Stars are vicious; one got injured by a fox, but survived, and the others attacked her so we had to separate them. Amazingly, the injured hen kept on laying eggs every day, but the other hens never accepted her again. We also had two Black Stars who are a mellower smaller breed and the reds went after them viciously. I think I'll only get the black stars in the future, if these are typical. Good layers, too.

Question, what if you introduce a rooster to only hens? Will the integration process go any smoother?
