A lot of ppl are taking what he says as a negative but its really not, romanticizing one take is cool and everything, but its also cool when artists are particular enough about how the final song sounds that they record take after take until it’s exactly how they envision it. At the end of the day the song is awesome.

One of my favorite modern day guitarists

He's more than capable of playing the solo all the way through on one take but he's clearly a perfectionist and punched in each bit so every nuance sounded just right.

He's the only person who looks cool wearing a short brim fedora.

Something that’s unique about this band and these breakdowns they do is that they make both the business and process of music so transparent. They’re very honest for better or worse, which is just so cool. They don’t try to hide any part of the industry-standard processes, whether it’s their usage of vocal pitch correction, cutting up guitar parts, using samples or equipment, and even stuff like how Taylor Swift was essentially extremely greedy when the whole situation with her label came out.

The whole music world is so different to the final package that the listeners actually hears. You gotta be very confident and comfortable with your talent to just be transparent about what it takes to make good music.

The honesty is gold. In the studio, the rule is to get the final product sounding great, so punch ins make sense especially with a constructed solo. I usually do certain ones as one whole take, and other with punch ins to make sure it sounds the cleanest.

I never listened to this band much but I'm always glad to see/hear musicians who seem super down to earth.

He makes an important point near the end. For some instances comping and getting a perfect solo is the move, that makes sense here with the business and technicality of the playing. So much creativity and attention to detail goes into your favorite records to make them sound as amazing as they do, it’s just so cool.

As long as you can replicate it, there’s no shame in punching in takes.
