The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Loving all these Paul Anka postings! This was Paul's second appearance on the Sullivan show. His first was on September 8, 1957 in which he also sang "Diana"; his first hit record.

Just as the music starts and the curtain opens on that forest backdrop behind him, he just looks so startled and a little scared. I even see him take a little "gulp" there before he starts to sing. Imagine being a 16 year old kid appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show. He did do a great job singing it, and it's definitely his voice live.

So professional for songwriting & singing. I heard this when I was 8 years old coming from a car radio parked adjacent to the men’s change room at a lakeshore in Australia: all the guys were singing uh oh uh oh while changing into their swimming trunks, including my dad! This song triggers off Proustian memories… Happy Days.
