Elon Musk Puts Two Homes on Market After Vow to Sell Most Possessions

Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk listed two of his California homes for sale Sunday, days after announcing that he would get rid of most of his possessions.

He’s seeking a combined $39.5 million for the Bel Air properties, including one that was previously owned by the late Gene Wilder, according to the listings on Zillow. Both are for sale by owner.

Musk, 48, posted more than a dozen tweets in less than 75 minutes on Friday, including one in which he said he’s selling “almost all” of his physical possessions. In another, he said he believed Tesla’s stock price was too high, prompting a 10% plunge on the day.

As for high-end Los Angeles real estate, it’s not exactly a seller’s market at the moment. Sales of luxury homes already were suffering from a supply glut and weak demand before the coronavirus pandemic stopped most showings. Fewer buyers were coming from China, Russia and the Middle East amid international tensions, and limits on state and local tax deductions dampened the appeal of owning California homes for wealthy U.S. buyers.

Even with Friday’s stock swoon, Musk and Tesla are having a pretty good 2020.

Musk bought the two homes in 2012 and 2013 for a total of about $24 million. They form part of a five-house collection he owns overlooking Bel-Air Country Club.

In 2018 he turned to Morgan Stanley for $61 million of mortgages. The two homes he’s now looking to unload account for about $26.3 million of that total.

Bel Air is among the most expensive districts in Los Angeles. The median home value in the 90077 ZIP code is $2.78 million, according to Zillow. Notable Bel Air homeowners include Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Beyonce.

Business Insider reported on the real estate listings earlier Monday.

I'm utterly shocked at how quick people are to comment negatively about someone they clearly know nothing about(I know, I shouldn't be surprised by now). I suggest actually learning about the person before vomiting in the comment section(big sarcastic smiley face). I'll give you Musk in a nutshell, but unless you can think critically and have at least some clue as to the possible 'bad' future of humankind, it's will go on deaf ears and dumb mind. Musk is one of a handful of extremely intelligent and extremely wealthy AND extremely caring human beings. You don't usually get all 3..it's very rare. Why does he care about humanity? In a nutshell; because he was not brainwashed by USA and he is extremely smart. He understands the irony of life and tries to give hope to himself and others. He understands that this existence is all there is as far as we can know. Someday you and I will die. We can't take anything with us, even our loved ones. Some of you have convinced yourself that there is a 'heaven' afterlife and all will be wonderful for eternity. But you have no evidence or good reason to believe that. You just do because you can't handle reality of not knowing what happens after death. Or your parents did, and they brainwashed you. Have you even listened to a single interview of Musk? He talks about why he does what he does all the time! He often proclaims his great desire to make people happy and give them things to enjoy, even if it's a safer, electric, vehicle for pure pleasure. But he also is taking huge steps to at least try to give humanity a future if things go horribly south on this rock we are quickly destroying. It might be thousands of years before we really destroy it, but at least he his doing something. What the hell are you doing, besides insulting a man who cares more about humanity than you could possibly imagine. You sit on your fat ass talking sh*$ while he works around the clock doing things everyone told him was impossible. You are a waste of space on this earth; he is saving your ungrateful rear a little more everyday while you complain like a pathetic child. Do us all a favor and continue eating garbage until your heart goes out prematurely. The less of you, the better:)

An involuntary commitment awaits. In US, involuntary commitment is applied to individuals believed to be experiencing a mental illness that impairs their ability to reason to such an extent that the agents of the law, state, or courts determine that decisions will be made for the individual under a legal framework.
