Theres alot of callbacks throughout this episode but the most overlooked one is in the kawaki scene at the end. Kawaki hiding behind the rock holding the prosthetic arm is a callback to Naruto in the very first episode of the series when hiding behind the tree holding the forbidden scroll. Naruto represents for Kawaki what Iruka represented for him back then.
