Top Gear Picks

In this video I want to answer one of the most common questions on this channel which is " How wide should my snowboard be? " Choosing the ride width snowboard is important so your board isn't too narrow and your boots drag in the snow or to wide so it difficult to turn. When choosing how wide your snowboard make sure your boot size lands within the guidelines for the snowboards width. Having the right with snowboard for you will set you on the track to progress in snowboarding. Thanks for watching!

I'm 6'2 with 11.5in boots and was riding a Forum pro model by Peter Line for like the last 10++ years. Finally pulled the trigger and got a brand new setup last year and got the Lib Tech Skunk Ape, and HOLY FRIGGIN BANANAS!!! Game changer. What incredible stability I have now and zero toe drag. Magnatraction is also a wonderful new experience for me. Loving it. Sitting here in south central PA waiting patiently to get back out on my board. Love your vids man keep it up!

Perhaps it would have been useful to indicate the waist width of the boards you were demonstrating.

Picked up the Marhar Lumberjack 155 last season. Absolutely love it! Asym twin with a flat camber profile. 2 cm wider than my old board, but an unbelievable difference in balance and control. Perfect for backcountry riding and jibbing. Yes, I recommend anyone who is eyeing a wider board than the one thier on to take the plunge. Its totally worth it!

I never realized size 12 was big until I started boarding 😰

Kevin, I don’t want to be overly critical . But when explaining the widths it may have been more helpful to actually discuss the width in mm . Because that’s more relative to standard boot sizes . Brand to brand width standards tend to differ . Other than that great vid ! Keep pumping out that content .

Now ask the same question to Ryan Knapton :D

BIG FOOTERS 13, 14+ BOOTS:
Look at the Nose/Tail Width - The closer you can get this to your boot length the better. My ThirtyTwo 14s are 34cm and my Nidecker Era 163w is 318 nose/tail 272 waist.
Not too many boards go wider than 31cm Nose tail due to stock base width.

Please put the waist width from each board !

Would be a helpful video if it included waist width ranges as that is what manufacturers list on the spec sheet.

This video doesn't answer some questions. Different makers have different understanding of wide and mid-wide. Moreover, there is such thing like putting not only boots onto your boards but also the bindings (sometimes bindings are making the things worse than you think). And, at last, tapered boards can be quite hard to choose, as people look at the waist width do not taking in mind the tail.

Probably should have talked a little about waist width for people new to this. Just a suggestion.

thank you for explaining this clearly and concisely. it helps tremendously and keeps me snowboarding!! ive an old horrorscope thats 153 and large bindings, its horrible on the heel edge, constantly throws me on my back when carving. gonna go wide on a doa now

I guess Ryan Knapton might disagree with the wider board being harder to turn statement. Gone back to a standard width board with size 11s absolutely no probs doing euro carves.

I'm thinking about getting a powder specific board some time soon. Would love to hear some recommendations. Particularly boards that are not manufactured in China. Thanks!

I'm a wide man & wide boards also tend to cover a more manly weight range than the normal width same length so if, like me, you have a robust physique you can still ride a shorter board if you go for a wide version.

Great vid kev! Its awesome to see how confident you are in front of the camera now. Also, given we wear the sake size boots you have no excuse for not riding my set up when we get on a mountain 🏂🏂🏂
