You've left Patagonia's Mission Statement out of the equation here, Tim.

"Make the best product. Cause the least amount of harm. Inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis."

After all, their marketing department is following their overall business strategy. Taking that into consideration, their marketing department simply can not start bombarding your ICP too aggressively, otherwise, it will go against the organization's POV.

Although, valid points from a digital marketing perspective, if your main goal is to generate more revenue through your website.

Non branded terms are competitive but it also give a good conversion rate.
