Southern Pacific 2472 - To Its New Home At Schellville

In March of 2020 the Golden Gate Railroad Museum relocated its steam locomotive 2472 along with GP9 3194, and H-12-44 1487, to their new home at Schellville on the Northwestern Pacific. After a brief overview on the history of the engine, the 2472 is seen moving over the Union Pacific, California Northern, and NWP, drawing attention from curious onlookers where ever it rolled by. The future looks bright for GGRM, and hopefully we will see 2472 steaming at Schellville in time for her 100th birthday in 2021.

Thank you!!!! I’ve been wondering what happened to 2472 for so long! I remember riding a train pulled by it in 2002 when I was very young, great to see it’s still here

My bicycle commute during the 1980's went through Bay Meadows parking lot & San Mateo County fair grounds where this locomotive was being restored. I observed this work in progress for 10 years as I pedaled my way to & from work. I moved from the area in 1988. I attended the 1991 Railfair in Sacramento where I was able to see this beautiful restored steam locomotive.

I live at the tail end of the former NWP line which is now the SMART train line, I hope I get to see 2472 make a trip all the way to Marin county sometime in the future.

The engineer that picked her up from the interchange was also a Golden gate railroad Museum member and had run the 2472

That was the last time the caboose saw the main line also, it now sits on the North spur behind other motive power

Can't believe its been a year now since 2472 was moved to its new home and now that it's 100 years old this month. Glad to know that I heard news recently work is starting on 2472.

Beautiful and save most historical locomotives but I see 2472 head light is missing or stolen?

Hope Southern Pacific 2472 returns soon. I live in San Jose, California. And I hope this locomotive would return to San Jose sometime in the future.

Very nice video of 2472 I remember standing at the platform at the Richmond Amtrak station as it went past I believe it was on its way to Sacramento railroad museum for the rail fair in 1991

There's tons of possibilities for 2472 to operate if the train runs to Willits It's optional for it to run on the California Western route to Fort Bragg California Although one Problem to that would probably be the 30゚ sharp curves on the railroad
