The difference in shadow and his descendants fighting style is that both are masters of all 3 styles however, shadow has more skills and experience and wisdom enough to combine 3 of em meanwhile descendant can use all 3 styles but separately. The descendant effortlessly learned all 3 but he uses em depending on the armor type but if we look towards the descendant's default style, (without armor) in the game sf3, he uses a moveset to that of Legion which gives us the idea that shadow indeed was the founder of legion but his birth was to the heralds. In the lore his rage towards heralds begun because heralds instead of teaching martial arts, had started to bring their focus on combining martial arts with shadow energy. Which Shadow hated and thats why he embraced Legion because Legionnaires wanted to destroy shadow energy and so Shadow wanted to. So basically Shadow can be described as son of a Formidable herald clan (coz they were japanese and so was Shadow a japanese-british) . A 3 styles grandmaster in fist fighting. A villian who was a once a great hero. Founder of Legion and assistant of King of the Legion.
