Mhmm, the fact that I ate them all (besides the pork, I am muslim), Italian food is one of the most healthiest and tastiest food in the whole world.

Made me get emotional.
Shit.
Wasn’t expecting that.
My Nonna’s antipasti was always such a beautiful sight, and smelled sweet, sharp and savory.

We had olives too, all kinds, but black olives were my favorite. And her homemade olive oil, she would marinate the fresh tomato slices in her garlic infused olive oil and lay a piece of fresh basil leaf on each mozzarella slice - on top of the marinated tomato slices.

The memories.

The presentation was so beautiful.
The beautiful china she had too, she brought it over from Italy, it was her mothers, passed down to her, used only for holidays and Sunday dinner. Dinner was early for us, unlike most people in America my Nonna insisted the biggest meal be around 2-3, 3 the latest. We called it dinner still. But if we had dinner any later than 3 she would have a fit.
God bless her.

Thanks for the memories.

The American dream kinda fell apart for tk family. They all ended up in jail, just crazy. I dunno. I won’t get all into it. Bless nonna, she worked so hard. Life just hits you by surprise sometimes. I wish they stayed in Calabria. My nonno came from Calabria too. I’m not sure of the villages they came from, all I really remember is that they came from pretty poor fishing villages along the coast. And that they came to America as kids, for a better life. Which worked. Until America’s economy flipped on itself and the generational progress slid backwards.

I used to love to imagine how it would have been if they would’ve stayed in Italy.

I love New York, I always will. But damn, I wish I grew up in one of those fishing villages in Calabria

Just to be clear, many of the products there on the table weren't there during roman times (like tomatoes which came from the americas). Still, the concept of a cold feasty pre-meal is really good and we in Argentina share that tradition too (maybe passed from italian immigrants).
