Beginning Sefer Shoftim
~ An Overview and Inner View of the First Prophets ~
The first books of the Prophets present a narrative that takes us from the entry into the land at the time of Joshua, and through the building of the kingship and the first commonwealth. Still, it is clear that these are not merely history books. The fact that they are understood as prophetic divinely inspired revaluations begs the question, what is the message in these books and what do they mean to us?
Rav Aaron Leibowitz takes us on a journey through the books of Yehoshua, Shoftim, Shmuel and Melachim. During the course of the year we will gain a mastery of the people and times related in those books. More importantly we will discuss the ultimate meaning of these stories, finding within them profound messages for us today on both a national and a personal level.
~ R. Aaron Leibowitz ~
Rabbi Aaron Leibowitz has been an innovative Jewish educator in Israel for over two decades. He began as a Program Director at Gesher. After three years as an Educational Officer in the IDF, he received his ordination from the Israeli Rabbinate, from Rabbi Shlomo Riskin and Rabbi Chaim Brovender.
It is Rav Aaron's belief that Torah must be both transcendent and grounded that led him to found Sulam Yaakov, a leadership training Beit Midrash which has ordained over twenty rabbis to date. This unique institution, which gives special attention to the individual's spiritual process and inner world, expects students to work to support themselves and their families while learning.
~ Yeshivat Sulam Yaakov ~
Sulam Yaakov is the Nachlaot Community Beit Midrash for Leadership Development. Located in the heart of Jerusalem Sulam Yaakov offers daily morning meditations, Shaliach Tzibur training, morning seder, self-development workshops and more.
