Navigating the Path to Energy Security & Access: Empowering Governments in Research, Skills, Finance

While strategic energy security on an international scale remains a challenge; we need to ensure energy-access roadmaps of the Global South as well. meanwhile, coordinating critical raw material dynamics, translating hydrogen roadmaps into industrial decarbonization that is economically supportive for the Global South, fostering technological innovation globally, it remains a difficult balance.

To tackle these global challenges, it is crucial to empower local governments and direct stakeholders. Three pillars will be discussed that are essential to give governments the necessary tools for setting out just transition pathways - research, skills and finance. To fully grasp the scale and consequences of the challenges and political decisions, it's essential to build on and have access to in-depth and scientifically validated information. To be able to understand and make use of these datasets, the right skill set is needed. Building capacity within different ministries and have a cooperative approach is essential. through development aid activities and their capacity building trajectories, there are already many skill development initiatives which increase ownership, efficiency and lasting impact. Having the important building blocks of sound data and skilled stakeholders are fundamental to setting out realistic and just transition pathways. The crucial third pillar for full empowerment is having financial mechanisms that support the roll-out of the pathways. There is a crucial need towards more funding and a well supported investment plan to make sure vital economies are prepared and supported to make the necessaries shifts.

This session will bring together high level experts from ministerial level, the development aid sector, research institutes and IFIs to join forces and discuss how to leverage the common knowledge and resources around this topic.
