Tip: @05:15 I'd recommend connecting the charging station to a smart plug/socket.
On a 15 minute automation check if the tablet >80-90% full and switch off the charger.
Then (/15min) if the tablet is <30% turn it back on.
This will extend the life of your device and more importantly, prevent the risk of the lithium battery swelling (or worse) due to constant charging.

My laptop was on at work 24/7 during covid as I remoted into it from home.
The battery in it swole up like a fat poptart so bad that it distorted the keyboard. Had to remove it and get another battery before it exploded/caused a fire :/

This is great. I am thinking about moving everything over to HomeKit so I can use that for iPad/wall installation.

Reed, great video, as always! Thanks so much for the shout out.

Having a smart home dashboard is really cool. I love having that "birds eye" view of everything at a glance... especially late at night or early in the morning when I may not want to use smart speakers to control things. My kid has also used it. I have found my daughter using the wall-mounted iPad to make FaceTime calls to grandma in the past lol.

Holy cow, that floorplan view at 7:33 is awesome (if it actually does what I think it does).

I too am building a new house and want to set up a smart home. Start off basic. Some lights, switches, cameras, doorbell, locks, garage door remote. I can't wait for new home tutorials.

The part I struggle with, is knowing what to get. I currently have multiple Amazon Alexas and 1 Google mini, smart things mesh (but have never used it) I'd like to keep the number of apps limited and have most things integrated. Can you create an updated "all in one getting started video"

Thanks!

I just got into HA as well. Unfortunately I installed some integrations that aren't letting it start properly anymore and I'm now kind of stumped on how to troubleshoot it. Thing is definitely a labor of love!!

Did I miss the hone assistant setup video? I’d love to see how you got to where you can use the tablet to control your smart home products. I feel like this is my next adventure down the rabbit hole

Hey, I have been watching you for a while and just subbed because I want to see what you do with your new home.

My home is 88 years old and has come a long way since I bought it. I plan to sell it as a smart home when I finish rehabbing it soon. Before this happens I want to add at least one dashboard.

I can relate to the excitement you had when you got a function to show up on your dashboard and your wife was like "oh, how exciting". I recently added a smart switch on my furnace power so I can turn it off while I wash my filters without having to go in the basement. I love that I get notifications on my watch if the furnace has no power or heat tape on my water meter has not come on when the outside temperature dips below 33 degrees. The water meter is in an unheated space and to move it will cost hundreds of dollars so as of now it is automatically controlled and I don't have to worry if it will freeze and cost me more money to fix it. If I am curious about it when the outside temperature dips to 33 degrees, I just ask Alexa what the heat tape temperature is. Otherwise I get a push notification that the heat tape has come on right on my watch.

People who are on the outside do not understand that it is not just convenience, but necessity to be able to control so much that not only makes it easy on you to have smart devices. It saves your time and money to have the most efficient home. When I first got my home it cost $800 per month in energy during winter & now I spend 20% of similar homes in my area on energy. The value has increased by five times what I paid for it & have invested in to it. The fact that it is full on smart, will help sell it too ( I hope).

I had seen one set up with a PI behind a bathroom 2 way mirror. It was super cool. I think I'd like this in my master bathroom so I can look at everyone's calendars and the weather and everything while getting ready. I'm definitely going to make one of these.

What setup do you recommend for Airbnb rentals where you don't want anyone poking around the settings? I use Samsung smarthings and z-wave devices for sensors, etc. Also want to be able to have the video feed from my Dash to automatically display on the screen when someone rings the bell. Other functions to control lights, a Sonos player to play pre-defined music/playlists from Spotify, turn on z-wave devices around the home, etc. Thanks!
