You have not mentioned two of the most crucial elements to get these plants to bloom. You want to place them in a very cool room starting in late fall, and give them 12-14 hours of darkness overnight until the buds start forming. These conditions mimic what they get in nature. Any research you do online will confirm those two practices, plus reducing watering, forces them into dormancy which they need to bloom well.

Hi, I know you're trying to say that the second cactus is a Christmas cactus but it's really not. It has teeth at the ends of it. The Christmas cactus doesn't have any teeth at all. You are correct in saying that the Christmas cactus leaves are rounded. Get your hands on a real Christmas cactus and you'll see the difference right away. :-)

Doesnt an east facing window get direct morning sun? Seems like a south facing window is the one you want to put right next to the window or am i missing something?

My daughter has a holiday cactus from which she gave me a weird cutting. The cutting is a fat 4 edged node which I put in water and now has what it appears to be roots growing out of the top. What is the real name of this type of node>
