I first heard of Shoe Bills when looking for pictures of The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword, where Links main method of transportation is a giant red Shoe Bill.
In fact everyone in links home town up in the sky has their own companion giant Shoe Bill! Otherwise they would fall to their deaths through the clouds
