This was really good I want to thank everyone. I do not know if it was an actual live where you can interact but either way I'll always watch.

Any chance you want to dig into the name Gillespie? Seems to be a bit of an interesting mystery. I can’t find a clear origin of the root “Gille/Gilli” but it seems to mean “devoted to” as it’s later adopted to Gillichrist, Gillichattan, Gillespic, Gilleasbaig, Gillies, etc.

Presently Gillespie is listed as a sept of MacPherson likely because of the link with the founders son Gille. This association alone seems vague when you consider the founder of Clan Cambell in 1500s was actually named Gillespie and that the name crops up all over with great variation before MacPherson. The name Gillespie and it’s root seems to etymological stick out from other names. It seems to crop up all over but with so much variation.

Is all of Gillespie improperly aligned with MacPherson? Where does the root Gille/Gilli come from? Pictish perhaps and thats why Cambell’s founder and the variations seems to come from nowhere? I’d love to know more but I’ve hit a wall.
