Woman Returns to Montana River After Vicious Otter Attack

For Jen Royce and her best friends, a relaxing excursion down the river turned into a nightmare. Their inner-tube adventure started on the Jefferson River outside of Bozeman, Montana. Three hours later, she was severely mauled with deep gashes to her face and hands by an otter. The area was so remote that it took nearly an hour for medics to reach them. Royce says that if it were not for her friends, she would not have survived.

I never would have thought of an otter doing this! I hope she fully recovers. I'm glad she had her two great friends with her to get her through it.

Wow! I don't think I've ever heard of an otter attacking someone. Glad her friends were there to help.

My sisters teacher who used to work at my city zoo, always told everyone that no one should ever screw around with those cute, cuddly little dynamites.

I’m still shocked this happened!
I’d like to know what could have made the Otter so violent.

I live in Montana and never had any issues with Otters. I love watching them when I fish.

I’m thankful everyone is okay!

I’m no expert but somehow this surprises me. We used to have otters show up on our dock on a high mountain lake in Idaho. I never even had one do anything but run when we walked down the dock. What a terrifying incident. That poor girl😢

Wow, after that, she looks incredible! Yes she has the scars but she still looks so pretty. I'm happy her doctors were able to keep her beautiful🩷

This is a first for me to be honest hearing otter's attacking. I feel so sorry for her. I'm glad she's okay now though. She has some real good friends.

Respect wildlife. There must have been babies around.
This stuff happens in the great out doors.

So proud of you Jen for being so strong especially after seeing your poor ear! No one's at fault, I think because there's more and more people enjoying the river and yes it is their home so they might of been agitated and burnt out on visitors and having a bad day, freak accident. Awesome friends you have and glad your ok! ❤

I mean animals live outside and protect their home just like how people will protect their home and family.
