The old sealant was scraped all the way down to clean surfaces. We used 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV as we don't expect the stand pipe to ever need removal or replacement. Sometimes you can find it at RV stores, but you can always find it at places like West Marine. It's a couple bucks pricier than the regular stuff. But after 40 years of owning boats and building boats, we have found that Marine Grade is worth using on anything that gets wet and sits in the sun.

3M Marine Grade Sealants come in various sizes for various purposes. When you buy a size for immediate use and for spares, don't forget that once you open it, you have to use it all. It won't keep well. It also comes in a 4200 grade and 5200 grade for sealing items that you know will probably need removal or replacement.
Most sealants will not resist chemicals. If you are sealing around an area that may be affected by chemicals, check out 3M Marine Sealant 101.

Use the best quality and best suited product you can find for the particular job you are doing. It's a pan in the neck to have to do it all over because you went cheap or because you just made do with the wrong product.

It's been raining here in Batesville Indiana like it thinks it's located in the tropics. We finally have enough of a break in the weather to work on a new "volunteer" project, an impressive gap that has opened on the roof by the stand pipe. Leaks have to be taken care of at the first opportunity in an RV to prevent water damage.

Disclaimer - these are products we have actually used on our boats and RV's and which have performed well enough for us that we keep returning to them. We are not affiliated in any way with the manufacturer.

Please read description for a rundown on the product and procedure used. Wolf got up there and was done before I could get good video of it. He's too fast for me, sometimes.
