Tokyo Olympics organisers reported that Covid-19 infections have been detected inside the athletes’ village after 25 people tested positive for the virus over the weekend. On July 17, 2021, there were 15 people connected with the Games who tested positive, including the first case found in the Olympic Village. The person was identified as a visitor from abroad who is involved in organising the Games. On July 18, another 10 people, including two South African footballers as well as a video analyst tested positive. The South Africans were the first people to test positive within the village. The number of Games-related cases had risen to more than 50 as of July 19, according to a Reuters tally. Organisers have promised to hold a safe and secure event despite widespread calls to cancel the Games and concern about a fifth wave of infections in the Japanese capital.

I feel for the residents of Japan. I mean, I wouldn't want tons of people flooding into my country during a pandemic...

Imagine how the other Olympic bidders felt. They have dodged a huge bullet.

Money is always more important than human lives.
Always remember this principle.

I heard her voice and it felt like she was crying. She was so concerned about the matter. It is so sad to see the Olympics during the pandemic, no joyous moment. Nothing.

I’m really torn on this.
Summer/Winter Olympics and the Little League World Series are the only sports I ever watch.
I don’t want someone’s 22 yr old son or daughter losing their life for my entertainment!
It does seem they have made every effort to make it as safe as is humanly possible, however…
Im just glad it’s not my call.

With that population density of Tokyo, let’s see if Japan can either boost their economy or boost the covid after the event... what a great chance to gather all the strains of covid in one city!

I’m really hoping that the virus doesn’t spread into the general public from the athletes.. it would be catastrophic

I feel for Japan
They've put so many money into this event hoping they will finally harvest the revenue by 2020.

Tokyo sank US$2B into the Olympics.. More delays mean more cost. I understand why they would wanna go forward, but doesn't mean it's safe.

It's all about money...

Either you hold the Olympics now and cut the losses early or faced bankruptcy from structural and overheads maintenances from long delay.

The worst would be if athletes bring the virus back home after catching it from Japan.

If cases sky rocket during the games, I fear it will be complete chaos for Japan.

On one hand cancelling covid is a huge loss economically for Japan, on the other hand you have Covid. Man I’m not educated enough to know what’s the best choice or solution.

I audibly gasped when I saw this was a video. This could turn into such a disaster.
